What Is XOSM™ Technology: and Why Does It Matter for Your Skin?

What is XOSM™ Technology?
XOSM™ is IMAGE Skincare's proprietary, patent-pending delivery system. The technology at the core of VOL.U.LIFT™., Ageless+ Retinol, the Daily Prevention and the New Image MD®collections. It is a smart-encapsulation system that packages three powerful antioxidants into protected, stabilised molecular structures that can penetrate skin effectively and release their actives exactly where they are needed.
The three actives encapsulated within XOSM™ are:
- Ectoin: A powerful natural molecule that protects skin cells from environmental stress, stabilises cell membranes and supports the skin's barrier function.
- Vitamin C: One of the most studied antioxidants in skincare — but notoriously unstable in its standard form. Encapsulation within XOSM™ stabilises vitamin C and dramatically improves its delivery to the skin.
- Astaxanthin-rich micro-algae: One of the most potent antioxidants found in nature, astaxanthin from micro-algae is up to 550 times more powerful than vitamin E as a free radical scavenger. Encapsulated in XOSM™, it reaches the skin in an effective, bioavailable form.
What does XOSM™ actually do in skin?
XOSM™ Technology works through three distinct mechanisms, each addressing a different aspect of the skin's biological response to ageing and volume loss:
1. Optimises antioxidant delivery and penetration
By encapsulating the three antioxidants in a stabilised, protected form, XOSM™ significantly improves their absorption into the skin. This means the antioxidants reach the dermal layers where collagen, elastin and the structural elements of skin are found — rather than sitting on the surface where their effect is limited.
2. Reduces pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion
Chronic low-grade skin inflammation — often called "inflammaging" — is one of the most significant drivers of visible skin ageing. Pro-inflammatory cytokines accelerate collagen breakdown, impair skin barrier function and contribute to the structural degradation associated with both ageing and rapid weight loss. XOSM™ actively reduces the secretion of these cytokines.
3. Reduces MMP-9 levels
Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) is an enzyme that contributes to the breakdown of collagen in the skin. Elevated MMP-9 levels are associated with accelerated skin ageing, wrinkle formation and loss of skin density. XOSM™ Technology reduces MMP-9 levels — protecting the collagen that VOL.U.LIFT's other ingredients are simultaneously working to rebuild.
In plain terms: XOSM™ doesn't just add antioxidant protection to the formula. It actively makes every other ingredient in VOL.U.LIFT work harder, by protecting the skin's environment, reducing the inflammatory processes that accelerate ageing, and inhibiting the enzyme that breaks down collagen.
Why does this matter for VOL.U.LIFT?

The evidence
The full VOL.U.LIFT formula, powered by XOSM™ Technology was the subject of a 12-week, 33-participant clinical study published open-access in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology (Wiley, accepted January 2026). After 12 weeks of twice-daily application, participants showed a 20.1% increase in volume (ultrasound-based), a 22.5% increase in firmness, a 20.7% reduction in wrinkle severity and a 21.8% increase in skin hydration.*
