Would you like to learn how to use Beauty sleep to help your skin look more youth-full? Michelle Ryan, National Trainer for IMAGE Skincare explains.
You have all heard of the term Beauty Sleep, but I’m going to break it down and explain what happens the skin while we sleep. At night, your body is in a state of rest, during this cycle your skin will heal and repair itself and detoxify from the daily free radicals to which it has been exposed. Your skin’s collagen and elastin have a chance to regenerate with a little helping hand from ingredients such as Retinol, Vitamin C or Peptides. Your skin will also go through a phase called ‘trans epidermal water loss (TEWL)’ This is whereby water just evaporates from the skin while we sleep. So, it is important to incorporate ingredients with ceramides or marine collage spheres to trap this moisture in your skin and prevent dehydration.
My first and favorite pick from Image Skincare is the AGELESS total overnight retinol masque. This is ‘a sleep in mask’ that can be used before bed three nights a week. Masking has become hugely popular as of late, as we are time deprived and need a skincare routine that is quick and easy but also effective.
This particular product uses encapsulated retinol and marine collagen spheres to promote collage and lock moisture into the skin to create that all day glow. The marine collage acts like a sponge on the surface of the skin to trap moisture and add more volume and bounce to the skin. To apply, cleanse your skin and massage in two pumps of the mask and go to bed and be sure to rinse off the following morning and wear an SPF.
My next pick is the VITAL C hydrating overnight mask, or as I like to call it “ Beauty Sleep in a Jar “ The VITAL C Collection is no stranger to any Image skincare user for its ability to brighten and hydrate the skin. It also provides a powerful antioxidant used to promote collagen, lighten pigmentation, reduce redness and protect your skin from environmental factors.
Did you know that vitamin C is twenty times more effective at promoting collagen through topical application to the skin over ingesting in supplement form? The Vital C overnight mask will flood your skin with vitamin C and hyaluronic acid, essential for hydration and volume.
Hyaluronic starts to deplete from the early age of 25, so prevention is always better than a cure. Use this mask 3 nights a week, cleanse your skin and apply a generous amount before bed. Rinse off the following morning and carry on with your IMAGE Skincare serum of choice and the PREVENTION+ Ultimate Preventive Moisturizer SPF 50
